A Life Set for Two

An Electronic Poem by Robert Kendall

(Eastgate Systems, 1996)

"[Kendall's electronic poems] are as disturbing as they are charming."
--Philadelphia Weekly

". . . the movement of the text . . . the passionate sadness and the playfulness combine to create this effective and moving word collage."
--Maria Mazziotti Gillan

". . . a virtuoso combination of [Kendall's] poetry and programming . . . very compelling."
--George Landow, Hypertext 2.0

"It gives the reader a wonderfully high level of choice and interactivity without diminishing the vision and voice of the poet."
--Switched-on Gutenberg

"The nimbleness of thought and word play necessary to create this construction is an elegant counterpoint to the weight and sheer sadness of a love affair gone wrong"
--Perihelion

CoverA Life Set for Two is a book-length hypertext excursion into the dynamic processes of thought and memory. The appetites of regret, bitterness, desire, and nostalgia feed on ruminations in the poem's Café Passé. As the reader interacts with these reflections, they in turn interact with each other, morphing within their changing contexts.
